how to add GRE protocol to asa 5505

i am trying to setup windows vpn behind server 2003. client is xp pro.  i am trying to connect to an external ip behind our asa 5505.  the error i am getting is "error 721 verifying user name and password, remote computer did not respond". does anyone know how to enable GRE protocol 47 on asa 5505.

i tried to use the commands to allow GRE protocol in asa 5505 and got the following error after login the pix and typing:  policy-map global_policy
after hitting enter the error is: invalid input detected at '^' marker
any ideas

You have to be in configuration mode before typing the commands. Type 'config t' from the enabled prompt:

ASA> enable
Password: *****
ASA# config t
ASA (config)# policy-map ....

thanks stsonline that got me in the config mode. but still did not work

here is the commands i used
ASA> enable
Password:*****
config t
access-list outbound extended permit gre any any
access-list outbound extended permit gre any any eq pptp
access-group outbound in interface inside
policy-map global_policy
class inspection_default
inspect ppt
i had to reboot the pix cause i lost connection to the outside.  i tried it after rebooting the pix but still got the same error 721....
any ideas

does any one know how to open port 1723 outbound? and how to open PROTOCOL 47 (GRE) on an ASA 5505 version 7x
