Server 2000 updates/patches won't reinstall

I recently had patched my windows server 2000 but the last group of updates caused the system to hang on bootup.  I uninstalled the patches/updates using safe mode and the server came back up.  I wanted to selectively  reinstall the patches but when I tried the first two, the update failed.  What is the best way to approach this?  The server is updated by WSUS but I controll which ones and when.
Thanks

Sorry this has taken so long.  At least two of the updates have been installed since the initial asking.  Originally, I was unable to open the log.  It was "In use" at the time.  The log has been opened since then.  If I continue to have problems, I will repost and hope you respond.
Thanks for your patience.
