does sql sever work well using nfs also any comments on using fibre across the ethernet

I don't know, but am wondering what are you doing with NFS FROM  SQL Server?
Are you storing file locations, getting them from SQL Server and then going to that location? If so it seems the issue would be in the client and not SQL Server... please expound on what you are trying to do.
