Company website will not resolve within local network

Our company website can be reached when viewing from a PC outside our local network.  However when trying to view the website within our local network it resolves to a search engine with the URL #1 on the search engine list.  We are running server 2008 with exchange.  The website is hosted at an external hosting company.  We have an mx record setup at the website host company that points to our static ip for the exchange.

can not ping or tracert the website internally.  externally you can ping and tracert successfully.

How do we resolve the company website within our local network?

The most likely cause of your problem is that your internal domain is the same as your internet domain e.g yourdomainname.com. When you are on your internal network you are using your 2008 server as the DNS. It "owns" yourdomainname.com domain so it tries to look for the record internally, rather than "looking" on the internet. As a result it will never find your website.

The easiest solution is to create an A record for www.yourdomainname.com on your DNS (2008 server) and point this record to the IP of the server hosting your website.

Thank you for the quick response.  I had to create a new zone then an A record within the new zone pointing to the IP of the host.  that seems to have worked.
