Disable Proxy In Firefox

I have 1000 PCs that I need to disable the proxy setting in Firefox and set them to "No Proxy".

I assume the prefs.js needs to be modified.  I have multiple Firefox profiles per PC, so it a multi-user situation per pc.

Whats the best way to go about this?

The way to do it depends of course on the operating system you are using. On unix/linux systems a shellscript like the fillowing would do the trick. It needs to be run as root of course.

We resolved our issue.  We settled for updating the prefs.js for the current user, our installer account and the Default user.  Here is the batch file we used to do it:

REM
REM *** -- Find and Replace prefs.js file -- ***
REM
REM 04/07/2009
REM

set parent=%appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

set newfile=\\10.100.4.9\sys\public\updates\prefs.js

C:
cd "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles"
dir /a:d /b > c:\list.txt
for /f %%a in ('type C:\list.txt') do (
  xcopy "%newfile%" "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%%a\" /C /H /R /Y)

C:
cd "%USERPROFILE%"\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles"
for /F "tokens=*" %%G in ('dir "%parent%" /A:D /B') do (xcopy "%newfile%" "%parent%\%%G\" /C /H /R /Y)

C:
cd "C:\Documents and Settings\Installer\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles"
dir /a:d /b > c:\list.txt
for /f %%a in ('type C:\list.txt') do (
  xcopy "%newfile%" "C:\Documents and Settings\Installer\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%%a\" /C /H /R /Y)
