how to make my own font

hi all,
how to make my own font that fit as external font with gimp can you please help me with a road map, tutorial, article, book , software that is open source gnu license that accept the shapes and transform it to true type fonts

fontforge is probably what you want ! http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/overview.html#TOC

thanks for the link but I get lost there when trying to find the link to download and install fontforge
