can't access vista shared folder

I have three laptops running vista.  One has a shared folder.  I can access the shared folder form one of the other vista laptops, but not from the third one.

So far I have made sure that all have the same workgroup and that the same user names and passwords are on the laptops.

Don't use Vista much but do you have "client installed for Microsoft networks"  checked under your network properties for that nic?

Yes, that is checked.  I noticed the last part of the error message says "the network is not present or is not started.

But, both laptops are accessing the internet through the same wireless router, with the same WEP key.

running IPCONFIG on both shows the same info with the same DNS servers

Hi,
Make sure you don't have an antivirus or firewall blocking somewhere. To make sure, deactivate it, even windows firewall and try again

If you can't ping it, you probably have to enable File and Printer Sharing on the third computer.
Start-->Control Panel-->Network and Internet-->Network and Sharing Center. By default it is set to OFF.

I can't turn on file sharing on the third computer.  The file sharing status says 'custom', and when I edit this setting and try to change it to 'on', the setting does not change - just stays at 'custom'.

Hi,
deactivate your NIC and reactivate it then try again. Otherwise, uninstall it and reinstall it that will reinitialise your connection settings

Do you use any third party application which manages your network connections? Also, try to make an exception in your Firewall options to allow file and priner sharing.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the network card and turning off the firewall, but no luck.

I saw advice that I may need to start the workstation service.  But trying that gives me a message that there are dependencies that have to start, and I cannot find a way to start those dependencies - they're not in the service list.

Please see the attached screen shot.

I'll respond when I get home tonight and have the laptop in front of me.  But when it says the workstation service can't start, and shows it's dependencies, none of the depenencies it says need to start are in the service list, so I can't start them.
