Hi, I recently came across an excellent post on how to reindex the WSUS database as part of monthly maintenance and was wondering if there is any maintenane tasks such as this that should be performed on the WSS (sharepoint/companyweb) database to keep things healthy.

if there is such a task, is there any chance someone could direct me to or post a script for this, as I would be happy to share the WSUS reindex script I have discovered in return.

As a rule, no.

The WSUS maintenance has to do with the need to clean up the database of old entries as well as remove any updates taking up space that are no longer needed. The tools for that are in the WSUS console under options for version 3. It is the WSUS Cleanup Wizard.

Unless there is a specific need to get into the database bits, things should run just fine.

WSS V3 with SP2 will have built-in tools to fine tune the SQL 2005 Express instance.

thanks Philip, I try to keep on top of these things as much as possible, but I am relatively new to the world of SQL.

by the way I received your Blueprint book last month and have been loving, looking forward to the advanced blueprint.

Hi Philip, I finally found the blog that made me think that SQL maintenance needed to be done on WSUS.

it can be found at
http://duitwithsbs.wordpress.com/2009/02/01/re-index-the-wsus-30-database-via-a-gui/

is this post still relevant when the WSUS cleanup wizard  is run, or does this need to be done as well as...

It is not a factor in the overall performance of your SBS.

If you run the cleanup wizard from within WSUS v3 on a regular basis, you can expect top performance out of WSUS.
