displaying the total item count in any mail folders in outlook 2003

Hello,
i need to be able to display the total item count in any mail folders in outlook 2003. by this i mean when I click on inbox, it will show me how many I've got in there. The user with the problem said it used to appear on the bottom left of her outlook.
I played about on my outlook and saw you can show the total number of items [right click on the foler and in the general tab] but i don't think this is what she had or what she wants.
