Split domain for exchange

I am going to test a managed exchange service. RIght now I have a hosted mail service that has there website and mail. in order to run this 30 test ride they are telling me that I can use the same domain and they will split it. Is this going to interfear with users that are not going to be in the trial run? Am I asking for trouble with this?

that depends on how this will be implemented

One system will have to configured as authoritative for the smtp domain

The upstream system (the non-authoritative one) will have to be configured as authoritative for another domain that you will be assigning email addresses from to the 30 test users

The downstream (authoritative) system will need a connector configured to route any email to this new domain upstream to the migrated mailboxes (you need to do this to ensure that the people you have migrated over for the test can still receive email sent  from the non-migrated mailboxes)

If everything is configured on both ends correctly you shouldn't have an issue.

See my answer to this thread for more on what needs to be done in order to make this happen
