I want www.domain.com request to appear as www.domain.com (EVEN though the application is in subfolder, i.i., www.domain.com/subfolder).  I only would like this to be on the initial request if possible

What you are asking for is called URL cloaking or URL masking.

There are a couple of ways to do this...

1) Helicon Tech's ISAPI_Rewrite application: http://www.isapirewrite.com/

2) Using frames, but this requires the website be modified: http://forums.iis.net/t/1123190.aspx

It is a dnn site, with other applications running in other folders, which is why we have it split up - I am a little unsure of how to attakc this, as I do not have full access to IIS, it is hosted...can this be done with dnn ?

After some quick research, it seems under DNN that only frames is the work around to URL masking/cloaking. Otherwise you risk breaking the session cookies for logins.

I am doing this, and it seems to be working fine

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
<head>
</head>
<frameset rows="100%,*">
<frame src="/home" name="main">
<frame src="">
</frameset>
</html>

I am concerned about security though
