How can I make the background of my graphic transparent instead of white?  I have a hole in a rectangle and now that hole is white but I want it to be transparent.

Hi

Strange it should have been transparent automatically..?

Check by placing an object behind it...

Select the hole only using the Direct Seletion tool (white arrow the right one one the toolbar) and pick transparent from the color selector palette. Transparent is the white square with the red bar across.
