Hi!

I have a client who has designed a PDF in Adobe Illustrator. In the PDF there are email addresses and URLs to websites. However, these links are not active or 'clickable' when viewing in Adobe Reader. He does not have Adobe Acrobat and he's wondering can he make the hyperlinks in Illustrator and then convert to PDF with links active.

Is this possible?

When you do a save as you need to use the pdf preset shown below
PDF/X-1a:2001

A few of the presets are not available until you move them, if that's your case here's instructions how to do it:

A few of the presets listed above are not available until you move themas neededfrom the Extras folder (where they are installed by default) to the Settings folder. Typically, the Extras and Settings folders are found in (Mac OS) Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF.

This explains the file to move
Rich Content PDF Creates accessible PDF files that include tags, hyperlinks, bookmarks, interactive elements, and layers. This set of options uses PDF 1.5 and embeds subsets of all fonts. It also optimizes files for byte serving. These PDF files can be opened in Acrobat 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0 and later. (The Rich Content PDF preset is in the Extras folder.)
Note: This preset was called eBook in earlier versions of some applications.

On my system it was found as below
If you yo have the PDF/X-1a:2001 I'd try that first, that gave me the links in a test document, otherwise follow instructions to get the rich content preset.
