We jjust bought a SBS 2008 box and will be placing it in the network as the DC, taking the sbs 2003 out.  My quetion is; how can we still keep the old 2003 sbs within the network? I know that sbs 2003 canl only have one DC, but can it run in a SBS 2008 network as a file server with the SBS 2008 as the DC and can a Server 2000 run within the SBS 2008 Network?

No, it can't. The SBS MUST be a DC and MUST hold ALL 5 of the FSMO roles. This limits you to one SBS per domain, period. There is nothing you can do to work around this, since attempting to do so will cause the SBS to reboot randomly.

You can, however, install a Server 2000/2003/2008 Standard/Enterprise Edition machine as a Member Server or DC on the domain. You simply cannot promote another SBS server.

Thank you. I kind of knew this was the case, but always like to check the experts just in case there is a work around being implemented.
