Website portfolio live preview thumbnails

Hi all,

I am looking to develop client portfolio. A couple of restrictions are I can only make use of JavaScript for scripting. I CANNOT do any server side scripting.

I have seen on the web these live thumbnail previews of websites. How do these work??

I was hoping to be able to develop a customer porfolio with little screenshots of the clients website and then a link to their website. But instead of going to 500+ websites and taking screen shots and then creating thumbnails I was wondering if there is a way to get the thumbnails generated on the fly to show a little preview of the website in its current state.

Is this possible or am I asking too much from current technology??

Thanks in advance for any help, advice or suggestions.

GW.
