Set a default for the connector tool line in visio

Hi, is there a way to set a default for the "connector tool" line in visio. Every time i draw a line i have to format it

I want the line to be:

Pattern: 01
Weight: 05
Color: Black
Cap: Round

thanks in advance

Doing what you want only involves a small amount of behind-the-scenes knowledge. The key is knowing about the "Document Stencil" -- it's a special, normally hidden stencil that contains a copy of every shape that's been dropped onto any page in a drawing.

Here's what to do:
  1. Open a new document from your favorite template.
  2. Place a standard dynamic connector onto a drawing page.
  3. Format it however you'd like.
  4. Select File/Shapes/Show Document Stencil from the Visio main menu. You should see one shape in the doc stencil called -- not surprisingly -- "dynamic connector".
  5. Delete the dynamic connector master from the doc stencil (yeah, it sounds weird, but stay with me).
  6. Drag your modified connector into the doc stencil. It will have a name something like "Master.1".
  7. Right-click on your shape in the doc stencil and select Rename Master.
  8. Type "Dynamic connector" and press enter.
  9. Close the document stencil.
At this point you should be all set! Select the dynamic connector tool from the Visio toolbar and draw customized connectors to your heart's content.

BTW, as you may have guessed, this fix is document specific. But that's OK, because if you want to use your custom connector in other documents you have two choices:
  1. Create a custom template from your new document and use it for creating new drawings.
  2. Create a custom stencil that contains your modified dynamic connector.
