Hello,

We have a Treo 700w (Verizon) that when connected to a computer via USB, an error window pops up during sync:

"The server could not be reached.  This can be caused by temporary network conditions.

Support Code: 80072eff"

This error message appears on the computer screen, not the phone.  Most of the articles I am reading deal with this error on the phone.

We have reinstalled ActiveSync, but it did not solve the problem.  Our sync profile is as follows:
Email & Tasks from Exchange (over the air), Calendar & Contacts only sync via USB.

The error pops up during the sync to Exchange portion.   One article recommended enabling the "keep wireless connection active" checkbox, I did that but it made no difference.

Any suggestions.

Hi,

Here is what I have on the subject:

Possible_Cause:

The connection with the server has been reset.
- OR -
Synchronization failed due to a communications failure. Try again

Possible_Resolution:

Verify that the server is listening on the SSL port and that the device can connect to the server over SSL.
1. The connection with the server was reset. You are using a Windows Mobile 2002-based device or a Windows Mobile 2003-based device with SSL. However an SSL connection could not be established and the connection was reset.

User_Action:

Verify that the server you are connecting is listening on the SSL port. Ensure that you can connect to the server over SSL using Internet Explorer on the device.

Also if you use forms-based authentication see this:

Thanks for the response, there is one important point that I neglected to mention.

This works 90% of the time, the problem only comes up randomly, sometimes rebooting the computer allows this to work, other times the phone needs to be soft reset.

These SSL items seem to be issues that would happen all of the time, not just randomly.
