How can I relay smtp email in Exchange 2007

I have a scanner\fax machine on my network that emails exchange via smtp. It works ok if the address is internal, but it cannot email externally. Its IP address is listed in my Receive Connector on the CAS under Network\Receive from remote servers. Do I have to add it elsewhere for external relaying? Thank you.

If the scanner\fax machine is using anonymous authentication then you will need to:

  1. Specify login credentials for the scanner\fax machine to use or
  2. Change the permissions on the receive connector to allow anonymous users to relay to any recipient. (Note: Make sure you trust the IP Addresses specified within the receive connector as this can be a security risk.)
To add the permission to the receive connector you need to use the Exchange Management Shell and run the following command. (see attachment)
