Hi everyone,

I have an acer aspire 3000 notebook with an amd sempron 3100+ (1800Mhz) processor. My old disk died and has been replaced by a brand new (not partitoned, not formatted, just out-of-the-box)160gb seagate ST9160821A (2.5'' sata I guess)..

Windows XP Home -original - coming with the computer won't install and stop at the raids. BTW, other versions of XP will do the same.

I have read other articles here and it looks like I need the sata driver but the one offered are for intel not for amd , i checked the acer ftp and nothing is available: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3000/

Also the Bios is the original phoenix version and does not list any option to change SATA, that said the HDD is indeed recognized.

Finally, the other disk is dead so I do not have access to windows or adding dirvers to it. I just managed to install an old msdos on my computer which gives me access to cd (But not dvd). The only partition recognized is a 8mb one which I really do not know where it comes from !

Any help is really appreciated

There is no raid. You should reset bios to default settings, and use XP with service pack 2 to install.

Hi Punky, thanks for your answer.

I did it and tried to reinstall, unfortunately the pc still freezes when loading Raid Mylex exr2000, 3000/ar160, 170, 352 drivers (exactly as before).

Any other idea?

TIA

Do you have other lower or higher windows OS installation disks such as Vista or 2000? If so, try that see if it passes that step causing hanging.

Sorry, my notebook has a further hardware problem (Bios or disk controller).
I think better delete this question, I will give you the points as accept solution, and delete this question after, ¿May be?
Thanks, Punky
