appserv not working on vista

I just tried installing appserve on my vista machine and it seems to install, but will not run.

If I go and click manually start Apache, a dos prompt opens up and says no listening sockets available shutting down.

I had tried to install some other Apache program before that I deleted.  I also have iis, but don't use it.  How do I get rid of everything and just get this appserve to work?

If you have IIS there and it's running, then it'll be reserving port 80, hence the available socket issue.

IIS is a component, so you could always remove it from your machine through add/remove components.

Also, just to be sure, you can try two things to see if something is using port 80 or IIS is running...

1. Just point to localhost in IE to see if it returns anything
2. Run services.msc and see if IIS is started, if so, stop it and try running Apache then

If this doesn't help, then things might be a little more deep-seeded.
