Exchange email sending issue.

Hi all,

Can someone help me to resolve this exchange. I just explain out exchange architecture may it will help you all to troubleshoot. We have installed First exchange server in US & run the forest preparation everything is setup & running fine but we install exchange to India as well. I moved couple of mailboxes from US exchange information store to india exchange server. Out of 40 few of the users are complaining that they are unable to send emails to group. when the trying to send emails to group its showing undelivered message " #5.5.0 smtp;500 Non RFC-compliant response received"   But they are able to send email to individual email ID. we have seperate  SMTP  virtual server thorough which all emails are going on .

Please let me know if u want more details to solve this issue or this information is enough to troubleshoot.

Thanks,

Biplab

That is not an Exchange message, so the remote side is rejecting the message.
What is between the server and the internet? A firewall of some kind? Ensure that it is not scanning SMTP traffic.

Thanks for your early response. Our India exchange server is placed behind the firewall(ASA). But have one doubt as I said earlier out smtp virtual server is placed in US. It may possible when the end users are sending emails that bounce back to there mailbox because of that remote SMTP server is not forward their emails to respective group. Do you mean I have to check on Remote site of the SMTP server , where actually its placed & all , whether behind firewall ? If yes i will check & get back to you with status.  Please suggest me where i have to check on india firewall or on the remote side.

Thanks for your solutions.

Is this message occurring between internal users, or with external recipients/senders.
The Cisco ASA does have some mail scanning functionality which is known to cause problems and should be disabled.

Simon.
yes all messages are occuring between internal users. I have noticed this  NDR report are generated when they are sening email to DL. I have checked the firewall too & have disabled the SNMP mail scanning functionality but still end users are complaining about same . Is this issue because of our SMTP server.  Or I may need to create sepearte connector for India site to Us site for route . Please suggest me.

Thanks,

Biplab
By internal traffic do you mean between users on the same server or users on different servers?
Ensure that you do not have a smart host set on the SMTP virtual server, as that can cause problems with email delivery between Exchange servers. If you need to use a smart host for email delivery then that should be set on an SMTP Connector.

Simon.
Users are in different exchange servers. India users are in india exchange server (K2I_Exchange-01) & US (United states) users are in K2C_Exchange_02. Most of the DL are in US exchange server. (K2C-Exchange) is working as SMTP server too. we have one connector & one routing group & one administrative group. All india & US exchange are member of first administrator group. I have no idea why emails aren't delivered. Individual ID is working but when they send in any  group or in any DL its not working. I have checked our DNS  server also everything is fine from DNS side. Hope it help you to come to any conclusion.

Thanks
