Hello every1,

I know there is some tools out there to extract a pst from your database backup, replay logs, and so on from a dirty shutdown state db. But what I am looking for is a software that would be able to do the following:

- Extract a pst in a granular way. Meaning that I could select, as an exemple, only the contact sub-folder of a specific user in my mailstore
- Replay X number of logs. Let's say that I backup my db on sunday and then do an incremental of the logs file every hour, I would like to be able to (after restoring all the necessary logs and the db file) tell the db to run logs from logxxxxxx to logyyyyyy

I hope somebody can help me out on this one. Otherwise I will keep looking for it on the internet and install one trial after the other ;)

best regards

Hi,
Export-Mailbox would do the trick for point 1.
Point 2 - Why would you want to do that ?
Thanks

Hi Genius, thx for your input.

To answer your question, I would like to be able to replay x number of logs to be able to restore at a very specific time in the past (a specific time that might be between 2 daily backup, as an exemple)

All this, with the objective of restore a db like if it was a block-level backup when it is actualy a file bakcup

regarding point 1, I am refering here to a db restored to a non-exchange server, not mounted or part of a RSG or regular SG.

Hi,
For that
  1. Try Quest Software, it will do what you want, it is independent of Exchange Server
  2. Try Veritas Backup Exec or HP Data Protector
These should do the trick for you
Thanks

With Commvault, Sympana v8, I am able to do a NO LOSS restore and inject some additionnal logs that were writen since the last backup into it and everything is being replayed automaticaly, which is great.

Regarding the mining tool, Commvault also has an Exchange DB Mining tool. It seems to work great for many people but it just doesn't work for me. I mean, I can open my mailstore, select any user, look in his folders, see emails or contacts but when I export it, they are sort of corrupted. During my researches, I also tried the Mining Tool from AppAssure, which seems to be very good too.

Cheers
