I am wondering can we forward the sound from one machine to another? I am willing to have a setup something like this.

Machine1: do ssh login to Machine2, and play one mp3 file using some command line mp3 player

Machine1: how to listen the song on Machine 1, while the file is being played at machine2

Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi

To be clear: with SSH tunnels, you can forward TCP ports, not an audio device.

Usually, people host (on Machine2) any music-database-streaming-software that makes your mp3 database accessible via HTTP (generally, restricted to your LAN, that's why you want to use SSH tunnels I guess)

Then, from Machine1, with a SSH tunnel, you can access your web server hosting and streaming this music

If you need further help, please tell us:
- what is your Machine*'s OS?
- what is your SSH client?

By the way, it's not actually "streaming", just "sharing" mp3 files over HTTP

Look around AMPACHE (http://ampache.org/)
I've already tested it. Quite good.
