http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/10/31/487090.aspx

one more thing you can do.

1.) Goto Run--> type sqlservermanager.msc--> press enter
2.) Expand SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration
3.) Click on 'Protocols for MSSQLServer'
4.) In the right pane you can see VIA protocol. Right click on it and then press enable option.
5.) Then try starting SQL services

The Virtual Interface Adapter (VIA) protocol is used for a high-performance dedicated link between two systems. VIA provides a memory-mapped communication model, which bypasses the OS networking layers for optimum performance. For SQL Server, the VIA client network library is typically used when you want to implement high performance clusters. By default, it uses port 1433, but this setting is configurable.

Ok,I'm not going to enable it as I dont think its related with any link suggested above, the sql server is running and not throwing me with any access denied errors

I review the sql logs and found a following, is this related ?

An error occurred while trying to determine the state of the RPCSS service.  A call to "OpenServiceW" returned: 5(error not found).  This is an informational message only.  No user action is required.
An attempt to connect to Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) will be skipped because the RPCSS service doesn't appear to be started.  Another attempt to connect to MS DTC will be made later.  This is an informational message only.  No user action is required.

there are several reason for this error can occur, the message you posted in your last post could be the one of the reason.

Instead of NETWORK SERVICE, have you tried to have it running under LOCAL SYSTEM?

If LOCAL SYSTEM still not working for you, then your server might have a bigger problem.

SQL Server Configuration Manager -> SQL Server 2005 Services -> SQL Server (Your Server Service Name, e.g MSSQLSERVER) -> Log On tab -> Buit-in account -> Local System
