Hello
I have an IBM RISC250 that works with an ARCNEC CARD PUREDATA PDUC508PLUS.
now i´m thinking of buying an IBM RISC6000 to do the same work, but i know that it has a different architeture, and i want to use the same card.
what i want to know is it will work in that new machine, and if not, if there is another card that could be used instead.

thanks

thanks

hi,
if I have understood your RISC models

250 stays for 7011-250 that has Microchannel BUS (No ISA, no PCI ) 15/20 years old .

F50 stays for 7025-F50 is newer (1997 ! ) is PCI multi BUS machine .
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/systems/hardware_docs/pdf/380541.pdf

There is no way to mount (physically) a MCA (Microchannel) adapter, in a F50

hi,
the problem is double.
The first is an HW compatibility one: find a card that "fits" HW speaking in the server: this, for F50, is not a great problem (it was for 250 that was Microchannel), becouse has PCI and ISA slots.

The second is SW: differentlly from Windows, is difficult to surf on internet to retrieve a device driver for AIX: usually you have just two ways: the CDROM AIX (neither ibm site, in which you find upgrades),
or the device supplier if reselled by a not IBM brand.

Could I know, why you are using such ARCNET environment ? Have you specific AIX applications ?
I ask this, for curiosity, and becouse, maby installing Linux on RS6000, probably, you may have more opportunity to find driver (maby to compile) for some PCI-ARCNET device.
