Print Dialog box slow to come up when printing PDFs

When I go to print a PDF that I have open in Reader 9, I see the hourglass for 30 seconds before the print dialog box appears. Once it appears, I am able to print the PDF at a reasonable speed. There is no delay in getting to the print dialog box when printing from other applications such as Word. I was previously running Reader 8.x having the same issue. I uninstalled that version, restarted and installed the latest version (9) and it does the same thing. The type of PDF doesn't seem to matter. Its the same delay whether it is a scanned PDF image or just a Word document that had the word "test" in it. What could be causing this delay?

That was my exact problem. There was a shared printer attached to another PC on the network which wasn't on and when I deleted this printer, the PDF printer went back to normal speed. Thanks!
That is interesting that Office does not waste time searching for non existent printers, but the pdf software does. It has happened with Foxit, Adobe Pro/standar/reader and pdfCreator.
