Adding a Windows 2008 server to a windows 2000 Domain

Right now I'm running a Windows 2000 AD domain which has about 95% are Window 2003 server. Anyway I plan I migrating to a new Window 2008 domain soon. I would like to upgrade one of my backup servers to win2k8. Are there any problems adding a 2008 server to a 2000 domain.

Also, are there any best practices guides for installing win2k8?

There will be no issues entailed in adding a Windows Server 2008 machine to an existing domain. If you add it as a Member Server, it will be fine. Promoting to a Domain Controller is a little more work, since the Active Directory schema must be extended, but doable and perfectly safe nonetheless.

Just install it like any other Windows Server Operating System. Be sure to have your hardware configured appropriately with RAID, and then boot from the DVD Media and start the installation process.
