Fullname for contacts in views is being inverted in Dynamics CRM 4.0

We have strange issue that has cropped up today.

When our users are creating contacts some of the contacts have thier full name in
default and advanced find view as Lastname Firstname where normally it has been Firstname Lastname. So now we have a mix of contacts some with John Smith and some with Smith John as thier full name.

Does anyone know what the issue is? We are using Dynamics CRM 4.0

Yes - someone changed the default way that full names are stored in CRM.  Check this setting (web version of CRM):
Settings | Administration | System Settings | General Tab -
Look for the "set the full name format" setting right at the top and change as desired.  If you want to get the names consistent, you'll need to setup a workflow to do this or you'll need to manually change the names.
