SQL Replication

I have set up merge replication in SQL 2005.  In one of the tables that I am replicating there is a field that I do not want to replicate so I unchecked it when setting up the publication.  When I set up the subscription SQL deleted the unchecked field from the subscription DB.  I want the field there I just do not want the data replicated.  Has anyone had this problem or know of a way around this issue?

Here an article on how to add/remove column in Merge Article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188063.aspx
every time you have apply a snapshot you will have a problem as you objects will get rescripted and you column will disappear..   i would create another table that is not part of replication to hold this static subscriber data..
