Printers keep going offline on windows 2000 print server

I have an old Windows 2000 print server. Over the past 2 days it has been taking 2 printers offline for no apparent reason. From that server I can ping the printers, telnet to them and even connect to RUI's using IE. In order to get the printers to start working i have to stop the print spooler and restart it. Why is this happening. We have not made any changes on this server since January. We have done reboots on it since then as well. Is my best course of action to delete the 2 printers in question and reinstall and re-share them?

I just deleted and recreated the printer with new drivers and it still goes offline. I have increased the points. I am hoping someone has run into this. The printer is a Sharp MX-7001N.

When you deleted the printers, did you remove the drivers as well? That is a seperate action from just deleting a printer......Printers and Faxes>File>Server Properties>Drivers. Need top stop/restart the spooler once the printers are deleted....

Also, guessing these are Network printers?

    Accepted Solution

Yes these are network printers. I have gone in and deleted the printer in question as well as the driver it was using and TCP port. I have cleaned out all drivers not used on the print server and printer ports as well. I have recreated the printer I am having trouble with with a fresh driver and then I restarted the print spooler.  The printer says ready until a job is sent to it. The first job will process fine but then the printer will go offline and no jobs will process until I restart the spooler again. I am looking to see if there was any updating that I may have missed on this server that would have changed something. Please help!!!
