Outlook\Exchange slowness in remote offices

The company I work for has its Exchange server hosted in the corporate office. We also have 12 other regional offices around the country. Users in the regional offices routinely complain of slowness with opening outlook and sending/receiving mail. I attribute this the regional offices having slow dsl internet connections. is there anything i can do to help speed things up?

Are your users using cached mode in Outlook? Typically, email should not be REAL slow unless it has to download a mass amount of it. Enabling cached mode should help out with the start up being slow.

All users are in cached mode.
As above with cached mode you could set the machines to download headers only or limit to download headers on items gretaer than xxxkb.
Ark,

That's a possibility but lets see what others have to say. I'm wondering if there is some type of "relay agent" that might be able to help.
There is little that you can do beyond putting Exchange servers in the remote locations. How fast is your UPLOAD speed from the Exchange server? If you are on xDSL then it will be pretty poor and multiple users, even on cached mode, will quickly drown it out.

If there are lots of small numbers of users in many sites then I have deployed solutions like Terminal Services/Citrix before, which places the users near the server and can have a drastic improvement on the end user experience and the support costs.

Simon.
Corporate has 3 bonded T1 lines so our upload speed is pretty good.
Hello,

How is Outlook connecting to the Exchange servers? MAPI or RPC over HTTPS? MAPI was designed to work over a LAN and is terrible over WAN connections. If you aren't using RPC over HTTPS, I would recommend you switch to it.

JJ
How do I make that switch?
What version of Exchange?
