Can't access any secured sites on our SBS 2003 server

Hello All,
All of a sudden last night, we have been unable to connect to our server using HTTPS

For example, if the users want to go to RWW, they typically go to:
https://domain.com/remote
and it takes them right there (when its working)
to make sure it wasn't related to the remote part - I un-enforced using SSL and it worked fine.

I've also tested with just the website itself using https which would typically work and it gives the same error: Cannot display this webpage.

If I try it ON the server: https://localhost/remote
It says page cannot be displayed

Router/Firewall hasn't changed: 443 is pointing towards the server

Nothing at all in the Event Log!!

Any suggestions?

is SSL still enabled on the /remote section in IIS?
for the IIS defaults:
http://blogs.technet.com/asksbs/archive/2008/08/12/default-settings-of-default-website-virtual-directories-under-default-website-and-companyweb-on-a-sbs-2003-server.aspx
make sure you cert is still pointing to your external FQDN

This is VERY embarrasing and I thought we would get an actual error - but ... the problem was that the certificate was expired. As soon as I renewed it and put the new one in, everything worked fine!!

As always, I forgot the most obvious thing to check.
