Find out what type of AD environment

I'm running windows server 2003 but how do I know what type of AD, like 2000/2003 native etc

Go into Active Directory domains and trusts right click on your domain and select properties. You will see the levels there (see screenshot)

okay I see windows 2000 native

and windows 2000

So is it simple to bring this up to 2003? i am running exchange 2003 now with no problem if that has any FYI

Yes as long as all your domain controllers are Windows 2003 in your domain you can raise your domain functional level.  
If all the domain controllers in your forest are windows 2003 then you can raise the level.
Exchange won't have any issues
You can raise them using the same GUI.  When you right click there are options for raising the levels.
