Retrieving Information from Sharepoint

i've a Sharepoint Site which i would like to recover. THe DB is in another SQL server which I can connect to. How can i reconnect so that the previous site can show up using the information from the DB?

    You can reconnect to this database from another SharePoint farm or quickly install a new one on some server.

    the moving part is understood ... just the reconnecting part ...
    i'm getting the error, unable to connect to SQL ...
