Data Encryption webservices and C# winforms

I am writing an application that uses c# winforms and communicates with a SQL server database via webservices.  I have written applications using the browser as a client with SSL.     But this is my first with a winform as a client.

The webservices is working well and data is communicating back and forth.  I need to encrypt the data because its personal financial info.  My question is if I put an SSL certificate on the server and then make the webreference url will the data be transmitted in an encrypted fashion just like with a browser does?  When you add a webreference to a form does the proxy and the class libraries that handle all the transmission know to encrypt?

Any info or tutorial/knowlegdge base sites is appreciated.
