HP Use Seagate HDD, Can I purchase a Seagate HDD and upgrade firmware with HP firmware?
Hi Experts
I have a few HP ML115 servers.
The RAID controller only seems to support HP branded hard drives.
I've got 3x 1.5TB HDDs that I want to use with the setup, but it looks like Windows Server 2003 will not allow me to see the drives during install.
If I stick 2 of the HP 160GB drives into the server and attempt to install it that way, it all works fine.
Looking at the HP branded Seagate HDDs that came with the server, the only difference than the size that I can see, is the sticker, HP branded.
I'm assuming the HP branded ones, come with HP firmware on the drives.
Is it possible to update the firmware on the Seagate drives so they are now have HP branded firmware?

I think the HP firmware updater checks that it already has HP firmware on it before flashing it, however you may get the controller to accept non-HP disks if you upgrade its firmware to the latest code. Depends though, what controller does it have in it?

You can always try upgrading the controller firmware, but I would wait until HP have certified the 1.5TB disks first.
Would object but there's no object button.

Well, I've tried smaller disks and that worked.
Your answer of attempting a future firmware update is impossible and not a definite answer.
If a firmware comes out to fix this, I will come back to this question and update it in the future.
Thanks again.
