Issue with IE 7 after installing Vista Ultimate

Hello,
Yestereday I installed windows Vista x64 on a new machine and I could not get IE to work. When I tried to open I would get the massage : "could not find http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=69157". I tried to change the address on the internet options to google or cnn but still got the same error. I did have internet connection since I was able to to run windows update without a problem. I manage to download IE 8 x64 in a flash drive and installed and that worked fine and I was able to navegate.
Now I have 2 icons for IE one is for IE8 x64 and the other I believe is for IE x32, if I right click to follow the icon it takes me to: (c:\programfiles(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe), this last one still does not work, now when I open it it says connecting and I get a white screen.
Anyone has any idea how to solve this issue?
Thanks a lot!!!

When you say that "the last one still does not work" what do you mean by that?

Sorry,

Now when I to start> programs> I see 2 links:

1 - Internet explorer:  which is located in c:\programfiles(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. This link is also placed in my desktop and quick launch. When I double click on it it opens IE but it only says connecting with a white screen.

2- Internet Explorer (64bit):  located at: c:\programfiles\internet explorer\iexplore.exe. This one works fine and it appeared after I installed IE 8.

You would generally want to use the one labeled just "Internet Explorer" (the one that isn't working for you.

Thanks for the sugestion dfxdeimos, but still did not work.
I click on te IE icon wich I am having the problem and reset everything but same error.
On the support page you sent there are only links to install IE versions for XP. I also tried to reinstall IE 8 x64 since I am not able to find the link for IE 7 for vista but still the same problem continues.

Do you have a system restore point from before this error occurred?

If you are getting this error message on a clean install I would venture to say that some corruption occurred during the install and I would just re-install Windows again.

I hate giving that as an answer because it really doesn't get to the root of the problem, but to have a fairly serious problem this early on the lifetime of a Windows install does not indicate good things...

Thanks for the ehads up.... I agree since it is a new system I just need to install the OS again, not a lot of effort. Also I run a system check and as you mentioned above it found some corrupted files that could not fix. time to clean up and start over again... thanks for the help....
