I have a vista home machine which is running on a HP Pavillion KA770AA m9175.uka.  All the hardware came with the machine when it was bought.  However I cannot use either of the drives i have.  In device manager they are both in error state.  If i uninstall them there and then reboot to try and let vsiat re install them it attempts to but says they couldnt install them properly and are still in error state.  I have also been onto the HP website and found all the drivers for my machine and have tried downloading several i thought were relevant but they were not.  The machine has no recovery disk.  I do however have a windows vista OEM disk i have yet to try.  I could see if i can get the drivers off that but it cant find the drivers off the current vista OS

any ideas how tomresolve this.  The model of each drive is below

Try removing upper and lower filters first. Then uninstall any third party CD/DVD burning software such as Nero or Roxio. This link tells how to remove upper and lower filters and provides some additional troubleshooting information.
