Hi there.<br />
My commercial website shows barcode in WMF format for users to print. All customers that upgraded this month to IE8 complained that the barcode is not shown &nbsp;(the missing image with the red X is shown instead). All works fine in IE7. <br />

I Checked the path (img src) and it's OK. I also renamed the WMF file to JPG and refered to it in the HTML and refreshed the page - and the barcode was shown! <br />
now, I try avoiding myself to delve into Dlls, recompile and such and just try to understand what is wrong with the WMF format and what IE8 is got to do with it...(securtiy permissions? reset configurations? )
