Hi experts,

Can anybody let me know the best way to run Photoshop in WINE? Which version is most compatible CS2, CS3, CS4? Is it best to run the Photoshop installer through WINE or to copy the Program Files from a Windows install and run the Photoshop.exe file through WINE? Or is it all a big joke and better off running VirtualBox?

    Assisted Solution

If you wish to run Photoshop on Linux, I guess you are requiring some features for professional purposes that are not covered by the Gimp.

In this case I'd suggest a commercial solution that will guarantee professional standards:
Crossover Linux ( is a Wine enhancement that specialises in running professional Windows productivity software.

To run Photoshop under Ubuntu, the best solution is to install a VmWareServer (free) and setup a minimal windows installation just to run Photoshop.

    Accepted Solution

I have tried WINE with CS4, CS3 and CS2 and found that CS2 + Wine works flawlessly, which is preferable over running a virtual machine. Thanks for the tips.
