The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

I created a GPO for office 2003 installation. It's a computer assigned policy.
I created a share folder on C drive. Tested , I am able to access the folder from any client pc. However, when the pc boot, I saw office installation message, but when I check in program files, it's not there.

Here is my structure in the attachment. Computer objects are placed in desktop OU.

Also, my firefox and skype deployment also not working.

You may want to try the windows install cleanup utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
I'd only try it on a test machine first and see if it helps with your error.
Thanks
Mike

Check the event logs on a client that you tested this on, it should tell you whats wrong. Is this a vlk version(i.e predefined product key inserted)?

thank you fro your suggestion. But after I run the program, I don't see any office program nor firefox nor skype. I never installed them in the past in this pc.

Also for testing purpose, I did a clean xp installation. Guess what..... Same thing...

I found an article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278472.

How can I make sure machine account for the workstation does not have permissions to the share or file system that holds the source files for the package.?

When you go to the permissions tab on the folder and add someone change the object type to include computers.

What did they event logs say on the client machine?

The install of application Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 from policy Office2003 failed.  The error was : The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

Same for skype and firefox

Also this 2 message:

The Group Policy client-side extension Software Installation failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.

Failed to apply changes to software installation settings.  Software changes could not be applied.  A previous log entry with details should exist.  The error was : The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

I believe there is nothing to do with client pc. Since I also tested with a newly installed xp machine.
