Restoring Exchange 2007 information store using Symantec backup exec

hi
i have got exch 2007 information store backup using symantec backup exec, this particular exch server is offline now.
I have got new exchange server now.
I want to restore the old information store to an alternate location using symantec backup exec. I dont want to merge it, I dont want to use the recovery storage group feature either.

is there any way to restore this information store (just like we do it for any normal restore, where we can restore to a alternate location) without affecting and amending any settings in the new  exchange server.
Thank you

Hi,
Please restore to an alternate location and then use RSG. Refer: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Working-Recovery-Storage-Groups-Exchange-2007.html
Thanks

Hi

When I try to restore it to an alternate location using Symantec Backup Exec I believe the alternate location needs to be Exchaneg Server and I can restore only to an Informatin store on that exchaneg server.

So do I need to create another test exchaneg server ?

I do not have a Exchaneg backup using the exchaneg troubleshooter instead I have a ".bkf" file and other backup is that of Symantec Backup exec which is the latest backup before my exchaneg died

Hi,
See using bkf why dont you export it to an alternate location.
If you are not too confident, then setup a test Exchange server (seperate lab) with same name and drive configs, and restore the EDB to that and work on the mailboxes
Thanks

Hi Nitin
When I try to restore using bkf to alternate location it gives me teh same problems. It asks me to restore it to some information store.

About the test lab environment, can you tell me in more detaisl as to what do you mean by same name and drive configs for restoring the EDB using Symantec Backup Exec
