Previously working. Replaced router due to suspect ADSL problems. New router not assigning any IP address to the JetDirect 175x. Returned to the old router.  Same problem.  Both routers will assign IP addresses to any computers attached. Even transferred the ethernet cable from one computer and plugged that into the JetDirect to eliminate other variables but no joy.  HP printer does not have a control panel so unable to assign static address that way.  Reluctant to buy new JetDirect as feel it has to be something I've overlooked.

You may have to manually set the IP through Telnet.  Hooke up the JetDirect to your printer, hold down the Test button for a few seconds, this should produce a settings page.  Find the IP on the page and use(telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) from a command prompt.  From here, you should be able to change all the network settings.

The IP setting is given as 0:0:0:0.  So will Telnet find it?

I'm not sure about that.  You may need to reset it.  To do this, unplug it.  Hold down the Test key and then plug it back in.  Continue holding the test key for about 10 seconds and release.  Next, print out another test page.  This, hopefully, should reset the IP to a default.

You could try 0.0.0.0 in telnet, but as I said, I'm not sure it will work.  You might also be able to telnet to the MAC address.  Alternately, you can open an internet browser and type http://0.0.0.0

That's a good link. I downloaded JetAdmin (needed to use version 8.1 as version 10 requires a humngous 1Gb of RAM....well done, HP, that's really helpful).  Used device discovery via the MAC address printed out as part of the configuration page from the JD. Then reset the address manually.  Which reminds me that I need to allocate this address in the router.
