What is the difference between esxi and esxi embedded. which one of these products is free to install. Also on the download page I see the following , what does this mean...

"This license key is only valid for VMware ESXi 3.5 Update 2 and later"

    Accepted Solution

Both ESXi and ESXi are free.  The difference between the ESXi embedded vs ESXi is tha the embedded one runs off of a usb drive (usually inside the server) vs ESXi which is installed on the local hard drive.

The license key ESX3.5 Update 2 or later is fine, the latest version is ESXi 3.5 Update 4, basically it's stating that it will not work with really old ESXi builds

    Hope this helps
