Create a script for Network Monitoring. If a server is un-pingable, I would like an email

I have been using a program called Freeping to monitor about 50 servers, but it doesn't have a email notification feature.

Whats Up Gold, which is perfect, but trial ran out.

A few software folks that I know said that this should be a pretty simple script.

We use PRTG Network Monitor for our monitoring operations. It has ping capability and alot more as well - lets you view WMI Disk, CPU, Memory, and NIC status, among other customized SMTP triggers/traps, etc.

Its pretty inexpensive for the smaller installs (100-500 sensors)

The good thing about it (and especially when you are monitoring a group of servers/hosts) is that it can delay notification. I.e maybe a server does a nightly reboot due to Windows Update or something - most of my sensor notifications are delayed up to 15 minutes depending on the instance, and this is all customizeable.
