Adding a new child Domain using Windows 2008

Hello all,

Adding a new child Domain using Windows 2008, means that I have to run Add Prep and Forest prep as well?

Or Can I simply add it as child DC?

Also the Windows AD 2008 DC require any special license activation. What i mean is if the DC require a licence server some whare on the nework to function properly.

Could anyone let me know that?

Yes, you would need to run the adprep and forest prep to install 2008 as a child domain.

The licensing server isn't part of the 2008 server edition it has been removed so you don't have to worry about this.

The only licensing server you need is for Terminal Server if you are using this service in 2008.

You must run:
adprep /forestprep
and
adprep /domainprep

Also, if you are running the 32-bit 2k3 version, make sure to use a 32-bit 2k8, I don't think the 64-bit version can do it on 32-bit servers.

Also, make sure adprep /forestprep replicates to all DCs before running adprep /domainprep

Make sure you use the 32-bit adprep if you are on a 32-bit 2003 server as mrmark states above.
