adding mailboxes without using licenses ?

this may sound stupid, but i need to understand it.  I have 30 lic key for our server, i just installed a techsupport help desk app and its asking to create a new standalone mailbox.

"Do not use a personal e-mail account for this setting as all messages will be processed and deleted. The helpdesk should have its own, empty account."

When i do this it will use a license correct ?  if not or there is another way to do it let me know.

thanks

A CAL is required for each user or device accessing Exchange Server.

And as the helpdesk account is being used as a service account, it doesn't require a CAL.

brislane: The Exchange Server 2007 EULA makes no reference to that policy(http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/useterms/default.aspx). Can you refer to something that does?

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

Don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that a User CAL was for a physical person, i.e. not service accounts.

I would love to see something concrete that said that as most of us would think that's the way it should work. I read through the EULA and the don't seem to give any out's there.

Depends which licensing model you are on.
Per seat or per device.

If you are on per device, then you will need a CAL for each device.
If you are on per seat, then you will not need a CAL for a service account.
