I have an HP blade server with 2 network cards.
I have one configure for the LAN card as follows

IP        192.168.44.20
MASK   255.255.255.0
GW     192.168.44.254
DNS     192.168.44.6

The second card i wanted to use to connect to a storage device using iscsi initiator, I configure as follows

IP        192.168.44.54
MASK   255.255.255.0

ther eis not gateway or DNS, WINS set on this card.

The problem I have is an error stating the event ID 4139 (Ebent below)

Event Id 4319

A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network.  The IP address of the machine that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

If I conplete the nbtstat -n  I get the following

Lan1:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.44.20] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    PICSSRV        <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    HEADOFFICE     <00>  GROUP       Registered
    PICSSRV        <20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    HEADOFFICE     <1E>  GROUP       Registered

IS:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.44.54] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    PICSSRV        <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    HEADOFFICE     <00>  GROUP       Registered
    HEADOFFICE     <1E>  GROUP       Registered
    ADS_8118038    <20>  UNIQUE      Registered

The networtk card labled IS is the iscsi card, it connects to the device okay but I have had a few issues as late that the iscsi initator has lost conection and need to aliminate the error above being a cause.

I have check all the dns server and the winns server for any duplicate entrys for this server there is not adevice on the network with the same name.

I f I run a ping -a to 192.168.44.54 (IP on the iscsi card) is return with the picssrv(the servername in concern) so this card must be reporting that it is picssrv even when I have set the card not to report to DNS or WINS.

I have even untick file and print sharing of the second card and made sure the network binding in the advanced option is the LAn as a priorinty

I can not find any information on the web that says the correct way to setup a network card using the microsoft iscsi software so I dont know if it is something I am doinag.

Any ideas why this card is still saying it is the server name.  ?

I would suggest using different subnet and vlan for iscsi interface or alternatively create link aggregation from both interfaces and use primary ip address

basically it is not correct to have two interfaces within single physical subnet with the same logical subnet configured for both interfaces

The storage device is used for many different item not just this server so a diffeent subnet woudl a big change

What is "alternatively create link aggregation from both interfaces and use primary ip address"

I had the 2 cards teamed at one stage and also used as the iscsi initiator, this worked okay for quite some time. The only reason why i broke the team and used one card for the LAN and the other on the iscsi is because i read that microsoft iscsi did not support teamed network cards.

hm, my mistake, sorry.

as for workaround (because separate vlan for a iSCSI is a good idea) - unbind microsoft services from an iscsi nic - keep only tcp/ip checked.
