SQL Server 2008 Installation Error

I have a hosted VPS running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition 64 bit SP2. Server has 640MB ram and 2.13GHz Xeon E7230 processor dedicated to it. I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 express edition (64 bit). It goes through most of the install ok, but when it gets to "Running post-Windows Installer configuration timing actions." SqlEngineDBStartConfigAction_install_configrc_Cpu64 it always errors with "Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.".

Can anyone shed any light on this please? I've searched google with no joy yet.

I am not sure if this pertains to you but people have reported problems when trying to run the SQL Server 2008 Install from any drive letter other than the local C drive. I have not worked with the Express Edition so this is the only tip I can provide at this time.

Thanks for that - unfortunately I am trying to install to the C drive. The last attempt I just took all the defaults and it still errored!
Can anyone help? I've since tried installing SQL Server 2005 express edition and that also failed :(
Points gone up.
