How to setup Apache / Tomcat?

Hi I'm fairly new to the linux web world and I was looking for step by step instructions for setting up a web server on a linux os.

    It really depends on your distro, if you're using something with apt, you can just do

    apt-get install apache2

    Then edit the config file to setup your server, there's also compiling it from source but if you're new to linux you're probably better off doing an install from package.

    Anyway, without knowing what distro you're using it will be hard to give detailed step by step instructions.
